Public Open House Regarding Updated Burleigh Co. Floodplain Maps

Floodplain maps are beneficial tools for communities, residents and stakeholders to gain better understanding of potential flood risk and available insurance options. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in collaboration with the North Dakota Department of Water Resources (DWR), invite the public to participate in a Burleigh County Floodplain Map Public Open House on Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. CDT at the Bismarck Event Center.

The open house is also offered virtually.

Virtual via Zoom: https://ogilvy.zoom.us/j/94832150627

Webinar ID: 948 3215 0627, Passcode: 701

This open house is a federal, state and local effort to provide Burleigh County with updated information regarding flood hazard and risk data, along with guidance about the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Representatives from FEMA, DWR, City of Bismarck and Burleigh County will cooperatively host the public open house.

Participants will have the chance to view preliminary floodplain maps, provide comments and ask questions about the mapping efforts, community floodplain management and the NFIP. The updated floodplain maps incorporate robust technology and data to show potential flood risk throughout Burleigh County.

Staying informed on the latest floodplain maps enables residents and stakeholders to generate more resilient and empowered communities. If you are unable to attend the open house, the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) products are viewable at: hazards.fema.gov/femaportal/prelimdownload/searchLoad.action
