Kansas farmers have been busy, with a recent USDA report revealing 6.7 suitable days for fieldwork in the past week. The state faces challenges with moisture, as topsoil and subsoil supplies show concerning levels, with a majority being short to very short.
Diving deeper into specific crops:
Winter Wheat: Planting is on the rise at 37%, with emergence at 14%, keeping pace with averages.
Corn: Its condition varies, with only a minority in excellent shape. The mature corn has surpassed last year's figures, and the harvest is also progressing well.
Soybeans: Their condition leans more to the poor side, but they're dropping leaves faster than the previous year. The harvest, too, is seeing better numbers.
Sorghum: Mostly fair to good condition. It's maturing and being harvested quicker than in past years.
Cotton: Majority in fair condition. With a whopping 91% of bolls opening, it's significantly ahead of last year.
Sunflowers: Harvest is notably ahead compared to previous years.
Pastures and ranges depict mixed conditions, with a larger percentage being poor to fair.
