Scranton Family Farm Honored with State Award

Scranton Family Farm Honored with State Award

By Andi Anderson

The Eason Family Farm, nestled in the rural outskirts of Scranton, Iowa, received esteemed recognition from the Iowa Department of Agriculture on Friday, as Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig presented them with the prestigious Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award. This accolade celebrates the Eason family's unwavering dedication to sustainable agriculture practices and active involvement in their community.

During the award presentation at the Eason Feedlot near Scranton, Secretary Naig commended the Eason family for their exemplary stewardship of the land, highlighting their Beef Quality Assurance certification and their implementation of conservation practices such as cover cropping. Moreover, he underscored the Eason family's rich agricultural heritage, spanning seven generations, and their enduring commitment to community engagement, including participation in church activities, county fairs, and the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program.

With a capacity for 3,000 head of cattle and 1,200 acres dedicated to corn and soybeans, the Eason Family Farm stands as a testament to sustainable farming practices and responsible land management. Their recognition as a Heritage Farm in 2021, marking 150 years of continuous family ownership, further emphasizes their deep-rooted connection to the land and their enduring legacy in Iowa's agricultural landscape.

The recognition bestowed upon the Eason Family Farm and Iowa Cover Crop underscores the vital role of sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship in shaping Iowa's agricultural future. Their exemplary efforts serve as inspiration for fellow farmers and businesses, embodying the principles of responsible land management and community engagement essential for the prosperity of rural communities across Iowa.
