Iowa Corn Farmers Advocate at Day on the Hill Event

Iowa Corn Farmers Advocate at Day on the Hill Event

By Andi Anderson

Iowa Corn Growers Association (ICGA) members made their presence known at the State Capitol rotunda on March 27 during the "Iowa Corn Day on the Hill" lobbying event. The event served as a platform for corn farmers to share personal farm stories and advocate for policies crucial to their livelihoods.

The delegation included ICGA board members, county leaders, grassroots members, and FFA students from across the state, highlighting the widespread support and engagement within the corn farming community. Attendees took the opportunity to engage directly with state lawmakers, emphasizing the importance of corn-related policies for Iowa agriculture.

Jolene Riessen, President of the Iowa Corn Growers Association and a farmer from Ida Grove, Iowa, stressed the significance of such events in shaping agricultural policy. "It is so important to show up and engage with our legislators," Riessen stated. "Our 'Iowa Corn Day on the Hill' event is a remarkable indicator of what's to come in ag policy."

As a respected agricultural organization, ICGA serves as a collective voice for Iowa's corn farmers, advocating on both state and federal levels. The association's grassroots members play a vital role in driving policy development and implementation efforts, ensuring that the interests of Iowa's corn industry are represented effectively.

Even if individuals missed the Day on the Hill event, there are still avenues to engage with legislators and advocate for agricultural issues. Participation in calls to action and attendance at local town halls are encouraged to ensure that the concerns of Iowa's corn farmers are heard.

ICGA remains committed to advocating for fair policies that protect the interests of its members and the Iowa corn industry as a whole. For a comprehensive list of state and federal priorities for 2024, individuals can visit iowacorn.org/policy.

The Iowa Corn Growers Association, with its 7,000-strong grassroots membership, continues to work tirelessly to create opportunities for long-term profitability for Iowa corn growers. Headquartered in Johnston, Iowa, ICGA remains dedicated to serving its members and advancing the interests of the state's corn farming community.
